Jose Lopez Hits 3 Home Runs As Mariners Drop Blue Jays, 6-3

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Jose Lopez clubbed three homers and drove in four runs, lifting the Seattle Mariners to a 6-3 win over Toronto in the continuation of a three-game series at Rogers Centre.

Michael Saunders blasted a two-run homer for the Mariners, while David Pauley (3-8) gave up two runs on six hits and struck out five over six innings.

Seattle right fielder Ichiro Suzuki went 1-for-5 and is now two hits shy of matching Pete Rose for the most 200-hit seasons in major league history with 10. Suzuki already is the owner of the MLB record for consecutive 200-hit campaigns with nine.

Vernon Wells hit a solo shot for the Blue Jays, who have homered in 10 straight home games. Kyle Drabek (0-2), making his second big league start, allowed three runs on four hits in five full frames.

Saunders followed a two-out single from Ryan Langerhans in the second by crushing a pitch over the center-field wall to give Seattle a 2-0 lead. Lopez, who entered play with just seven home runs this year, went deep in the next inning to make it 3-0.

Pauley got into trouble in the fourth. After Wells homered to begin the frame, the Blue Jays loaded the bases with one out, but generated only one more run with a groundout by Edwin Encarnacion.

Brian Tallet replaced Drabek in the sixth and Lopez greeted him by depositing the left-hander's first pitch over the left-field wall. Lopez capped his power display with a two-run shot off Shawn Camp in the eighth.

Toronto scratched out a run in the ninth on a groundout from John Buck.

Game Notes

Lopez recorded the first 3-HR game of his career...Pauley had lost his last four decisions...The Mariners had lost four straight in Toronto and five in a row on the road...The Blue Jays lead the majors with 132 home runs at home this season -- two shy of the club record for a single season set in 2000.
