UW Basketball Recruiting: Romar Reportedly Adds Portland Guard Andrew Andrews

In a move that left many scratching their heads last night, Portland senior Andrew Andrews verbally committed to Lorenzo Romar and the Washington Huskies. Andrews is an under the radar point guard that hadn’t shown up on any Washington recruiting sites until the surprise commitment.

This morning, the pieces to the puzzle started coming together. Duck Territory’s Matt Prehm, who originally broke the news, found out Andrews plans to attend prep school and enroll at Washington for the 2012 season.

Andrews won’t be at Washington for the 2011-12 season however as he plans to re-classify and attend a prep school following his time at Benson.

With Andrews, Washington gets a prospect who will receive another year of seasoning before stepping foot on the court in Montlake. It’s really a no-lose situation for Romar. Andrews doesn’t take a scholarship in 2012, allowing Romar to fill the void left by Tyrese Breshers and continue to target some of the bigger names out there. In 2012, Andrews shows up more physically mature and ready for the rigors of the college game.

In the meantime, Romar and the Huskies turn their attention to Tony Wroten Jr. and Jabari Brown, both of whom visited Washington last weekend. With a loaded crop of talent in the 2011 recruiting class, the Husky head man is on a mission to land a stacked class with their remaining open scholarships.
