Washington Husky Football Notes: Jake Heaps, Riley Nelson To Split QB Job Against Dawgs

Skyline High School graduate Jake Heaps will see plenty of action for BYU as they kick off the season against the Washington Huskies on September 4th in Provo. The Cougar freshman, who chose between BYU and UW last year, has been in the running for the starting job since enrolling early to participate in spring drills.

As the Huskies begin preparations for BYU, they'll need to be ready to face different looks at quarterback, though Steve Sarkisian likely isn't worried. Bob Condotta has the notes.

Without even asking, I know what the reaction of UW coach Steve Sarkisian is likely to be to this news --- that it's the system and not the QBs themselves that the Huskies are preparing for in practice. So I don't think this changes anything in terms of UW's approach, especially since this was pretty much what everyone thought would happen, anyway.

For Washington fans, Heaps adds an extra angle of intrigue to open the season. While the Huskies did end up with Nick Montana, Heaps was always the big target in last years' class. Sticking it to him and beating BYU on the road would go a long way towards jumpstarting a season full of promise.
